Gripe and Complain
You shouldn't believe all the hype
It's not okay to gripe, gripe, gripe
They say squeaky wheel gets the grease
Yet, not the road toward inner peace
Often, there're reasons to complain
But soon becomes constant refrain
If attitude is "woe is me"
You'll live your life unhappily
Of course, there're things to gripe about
This world has troubles, there's no doubt
Yet, really what's complaining do
For life is full of blessings, too
When choice is to gripe and complain
It doesn't lessen angst or pain
On other hand when blessings counted
A climb to holy ground's been mounted
It's there our need to gripe's released
And gradually complaints decrease
Then gratitude starts to replace
The whining we had given space
As creatures of habit, it's hard
Our old, unhealthy ways discard
But new habits we too can learn
When bad ones we finally discern
Reasons to gripe are very real
You've right to feel the way you feel
Reasons for thankfulness are too
To give thanks always, you should do
For every good and perfect thing
Is from the Lord, so we should bring
Him praises for each blessed gift
A way the chaff and grain to sift
Our Savior had things worse than we
Complainer, he refused to be
Each hardship used for Father's plan
All faith and trust put in God's hand
When we do that, we'll come to know
Each difficulty helps us grow
To be like Jesus Christ himself
As step by step, we die to self
To die to self is Christ to gain
Great joy of which we can't complain
