Identity
How is it you identify?
Are you a girl? Are you a guy?
Or depends how you feel today
Not just appearance you display?
Identity wrapped in a group?
A sexual alphabet soup
Dependent upon who you love?
The one who fits you like a glove?
Is your identity your race?
The color skin upon your face?
Is the amount of melanin
Determining which group you're in?
Have you political identity?
Your name followed by R or D?
Or maybe Independent kind?
Still seeking those with a like mind?
Is yours a national identity
Centered around your own country?
Not necessarily where you live
But where your true allegiance give
Do you identify by creed?
Set of beliefs you choose to heed?
Maybe Christian denomination
Or other faith affiliation?
Identity policies divide
Their membership a source of pride
With Christ as our identity
Comes from place of inclusivity
A Christian, I profess to be
I've only one identity
All others don't matter at all
Once I choose to heed Jesus' call
Identify with Christ alone
The Lord who sits upon the throne
All other identities don't matter
For all are simply earthly blather
They're truly of no consequence
When standing before Peace's Prince
Since none of that, the Lord will see
But only what's inside of me
For when my Savior died for me
I received new identity
So, all believers ever since
Are seen as Christ's own righteousness
Lord, help me see things with your eyes
My fellow man, not categorize
Treat all with love and dignity
Though might not look or act like me
Not seek earthly validity
By in which groups I choose to be
Let those around me truly see
That You are my identity
