250410 Quit Digging

 Quit Digging

Digging a hole without a doubt
Stop buying things can live without
Accumulate mountain of debt
Why haven't you quit digging yet?

Keep traveling down the wrong road
In spite of warnings you've been told
You know it, but don't turn around
So, awful path keep going down

You're in a bad relationship
You try to make the best of it
Since you've invested for so long
You stick around, though know it's wrong

You've gotten in over your head
Can't fulfill promises you've said
Your effort goes to covering tracks
So, no one sees the skills you lack

Bad choices - you have made a bunch
Their consequences eat your lunch
Though future outlook seems
depressin'
You seldom seem to learn your lesson

In all of these scenarios
Bad choices, where your money goes
Not what you want, but still go back
There must be something that you lack

You know you're in a darkened pit
Yet, keep digging in spite of it
Just stop and put the shovel down
Then, take the time to look around

When you quit digging and take stock
You'll find you dug straight to bedrock
A firm foundation underneath
To stand on for grace and relief

Though darkened pit has seemed your plight
By looking up, you see the light
While digging, you were looking down
So, hadn't noticed God around

There, with each shovelful you take
With every bad choice and mistake
The pit is not where you belong
So, Christ's shoulders, you can stand on

He'll lift you out of darkest hole
No matter how far down did go
Quit digging and put trust in him
Come to the light; come to freedom
