250419 Stillness Saturday

 Stillness Saturday

Their Lord had died; disciples cried
In fear, they hid safely inside
For in that fear and profound grief
Their minds were filled with unbelief

Nothing occurred as they had planned
Ended in death of Son of Man
This wasn't how it should go down
With cursed tree and thorny crown

Supposed to end with people free
Of Roman tax and tyranny
Instead, this sabbath's deathly still
How could this possibly be God's will

In their confusion and their pain
God's purpose, they must now reframe
But in their grief, they're paralyzed
Can't see clearly through tear-filled eyes

The stillness of this Saturday
The Lord used in his divine way
God knew they needed sabbath rest
To prepare for what was coming next

For this was not the end at all
But in their grief, did not recall
Their Savior's words, nor comprehend
That though he died would rise again

For he had clearly told them so
Yet, that's not where their minds would go
His broken body's all they saw
So, "It is finished," said it all

In tomb where Jesus' body lay
In stillness of this sabbath day
The Father's hand was still in play
Preparing to roll stone away

This Saturday, we can rest, too
For Christ did all he came to do
"It is finished" marks the end
Of death, for we shall live again

Rest too knowing sin has no sway
His blood has washed its stain away
And in our Savior we're reborn
Because of truth of Easter morn
