250501 Growing Older

 Growing Older

My hips have gotten much too wide
My graying hair I've often dyed
Parts have grown mushy that were taut
Gravity's winning - though hard fought

I wake up filled with aches and pains
Unhappy with the weight I've gained
My wrinkles  - more than one or two
Show Father Time has marched on through

My pace is slower; so's my mind
This aging thing's not always kind
I'm not as spry as used to be
Am longing for the younger me

Was once told had a pretty face
Yet, that's a thing time did erase
Though a fact my family denies
Can't tell with my near-sighted eyes

Does any of this describe you
Born in the 1900's too
Yet, though body's falling apart
Inside I still feel young at heart

While stamina is running low
And there's still much I do not know
With all the years I've spent on earth
I've learned a thing or two of worth

That time is such a fleeting thing
So cherish each moment it brings
The years go by in such a rush
Don't spend them worrying so much

Nor wait so long to celebrate
For doing so may be too late
Rejoice in what seems ordinary
Appreciate the weight they carry

For that is what life is made of
Each second spent with those you love
See every day that we are given
As precious gift from God in heaven

Less spring in step, more stoop in shoulder
Yet, what a blessing to grow older
For God still shares his work with me
And when it's o'er his face I'll see

Not only that, when go to heaven
A brand new, perfect body given
But till then, I can truly say
The Lord's walked with me every day
