250502 Flower Power

 Flower Power

Have you ever truly seen a flower
Looked close at it and felt it's power
Though here today and gone tomorrow
It's power I would like to borrow

For even gray of winter yields
To springtime lilies of the fields
As seasons change, cold will recoil
When flower buds push through the soil

The beauty of each varied bloom
Has power to conquer the gloom
Sweet faces stretching toward the sun
Can warm the soul of the most glum

Yes, even on the darkest days
There's power in flower bouquets
To change a frown into a smile
Forget one's cares a little while

There's also power in the scent
Of heirloom rose or hyacinth
Can freshen up entire room
Enchanting, natural perfume

The butterflies and honeybees
Flowers have power over these
Their scent and beauty used as bait
To those needed to pollinate

They have another attribute
The power behind bearing fruit
For they provide a vital need
In the production of a seed

Each pedal, pistil, leaf, and stem
A loving God created them
The shear variety of flowers
Evidence of the designer's powers

To me, flowers are living proof
That God's not distant or aloof
A far off God who did not care
Would not spread flowers everywhere

For they spread life and beauty too
As God created them to do
So, let's take our cue from the flower
And like it, use God-given power

To dispell gloom where e'er we go
So our creator others know
If spreading joy is our pursuit
Then, like the flower, we'll bear fruit

Dear Lord, we praise you for the flower
A symbol of your mighty power
All glory given to the One
Who was, and is, and is to come
