240111 Hard Days
Hard Days
God, my faith journey has stalled out
Still do your will, but with a pout
Once I obeyed most joyously
But oft times now done grudgingly
I know if work as for the Lord
Can turn my labor to reward
But my labor feels just like that -
Laborious or like combat
I'm fighting being in a funk
Can't count how much coffee I've drunk
Still drag around, low energy
Lord, what is going on with me?
Some days, I find it hard to smile
Seems this has gone on for a while
Can't focus on the task at hand
Things once exciting now feel bland
Outside my window's cold and gray
Inside, I'm feeling the same way
I find each day I'm getting through
But I'm uncertain how I do
I'd rather not get out of bed
Can't look with joy at what's ahead
Seems now I cry too easily
I'm wallowing in self-pity
Yes, my faith journey has stalled out
My vision's cloudy, without doubt
Of course, my countenance is blue
I'm looking down, not up at you
Forgotten how you faithfully
Keep every promise made to me
Your love and mercy deserve praise
Even when going through hard days
So, every day while this fog lifts
May I see each one as a gift
And even when I'm feeling weepy
May I feel how you love me deeply
I pray you'll help my trust to grow
Especially when I feel low
To trust that you've good plans for me
For you see what I cannot see
To know despair will reach an end
And I will smile and laugh again
Rejoicing that you've walked with me
Holding my hand through life's journey
