240601 Obedience

 Obedience

Obey's a word not liked a lot
Unless we're the one calling shots
Don't like to do what others say
Prefer to have things our own way

Obey is such restrictive word
Don't want to follow rules I've heard
Why can't you just let me be me
Is that not what I'm born to be

My parents,  teachers, husband, wife
All trying to control my life
Why can't they just leave me alone
Who died and put them on the throne

No problem with authority
When see the highest one as me
But, when to others, I must bow
Authority's a problem now

Obedient's less hard to be
To those who want the best for me
But, oh, it feels like cross to bear
With those in charge who don't seem fair

As kid, I used to fantasize
Of freedoms seen through adult eyes
Where no one was the boss of me
No need to act obediently

Reality's a bitter pill
That I can't do just what I will
There're always ones I must obey
For if I don't, I'll rue the day

But, what if disobediency's
Displayed with Supreme Authority
Our lives can quickly go downhill
If we refuse to do God's will

For, what's the price - what consequence
If willful disobedience
If honest, then you know it's true
You're really not in charge of you

Not chains, but freedom this fact brings
To know you're not in charge of things
For, when you're obedient to the Lord
Then peace of mind is your reward

Since God is good, his commands are just
He only wants the best for us
Your road goes smoother; you will see
When walking path of obediency

Dear Father, help me know today
Your will for me, and to obey
For when I do, it honors you
And that's something I want to do
Forgive my disobedience
Of all if it, I do repent
I praise you for your majesty
Your mercy and for loving me
Amen
