240904 Blessed Rain

 Blessed Rain

The pitter patter of the rain
Then splish and splash echo refrain
Sweet sound that's music to my ear
Song lawn and soul have longed to hear

The fresh and sweet smell of the air
Puddles and streamlets everywhere
The ping of raindrops on the roof
Each one, a gift; parched senses, soothe

And like a shower washes 'way
The sweat and dirt from work or play
A rain shower cleanses the air
The dusty streets and everywhere

Hot, dry spell that had come before
Makes me relish the rain much more
The spring rains felt lifetime away
This summer one brings cooler day

And though I'm sure it can't be so
I swear I've seen my flowers grow
Their droopy heads bent just last night
Today, are standing straight upright

Yes, like my soul, they needed rain
To quickly spring to life again
For we all were close to defeat
From this long, dry, oppressive heat

Your Word is like refreshing rain
Each syllable, a sweet refrain
Of just how far and deep and wide
Your endless love's exemplified

Your word falls on me like a shower
Each verse filled with your healing power
To restore and sustain my heart
It's divine wisdom to impart

And oh, this heavenly H2O
Can cause this dying world to grow
In mercy, faith, kindness, and love
All things we need so much more of

Belief in Christ, let's shower begin
That washes 'way the stain of sin
Cleans us to state of righteousness
So, to God, we have full access

We thank you. LORD for blessed rain
And all of life, it does sustain
All praise and glory, you are due
For every drop's a gift from you
