240911 Each Day

 Each Day

I really want to seize the day
And not just muddle through
For in my heart I know each one's
A blessed gift from you

Too often don't see day that way
Or praise the giver of it
But rather one just to check off
Or worse, just rise above it

For some feel overwhelming
With chore upon endless chore
Not cause for celebration
But more something to endure

Each day you have allotted me
So I know it's no mistake
Thus, I should give to you all praise
For you give each breath I take

So, Father, please forgive me
When I take this attitude
For there's blessing in the hard days
Those requiring fortitude

Not just the fun or easy ones
That give our work respite
For most will be more challenging
Those too can bring delight

There're lessons in the hard ones
And there's growth within them, too
So help me see them all that way
With a godly point of view

Approaching each with gratefulness
No matter what it brings
Is how we thank the giver
And the highest of praising

So, God, I thank you for this day
And each day, I shall strive
To spend it fully serving you
As long as I'm alive

Then, when my life is over
And my last breath has been spent
I'll hear your sweet voice calling
Come, my good, faithful servant
