241230 Family Resemblance

 Family Resemblance

Was looking at old photos
In albums the other day
Sweet memories of family
And places far away

Mementos of all those I love
And special past events
A concrete, visual record
Of those who've passed long since

Oh, what a great blessing it is
The gift of photography
Preserving people and events
That fill my memory

And as I study faces
Can't deny the evidence
Of similarities that show
Family resemblance

Same turned up nose, same hazel eyes
Same ears, same freckled face
A dimpled chin that's just like him
Like features I can trace

How Uncle Charles resembles Dad
When he was just a youth
And Vicky when she was a child
Looks like young Grandma Ruth

His work ethic is just like George
She sings like cousin Sue
My quirky sense of humor
I think I got that from you

Then thoughts begin to wander
To my heavenly family tree
The one that I was born into
When Christ adopted me

Would people who observe me
See God's family resemblance
Would how I act make it quite clear
It's Christ I represent

If they look closely at my life
Can I truly make the claim
That I've grown to resemble Christ
Since I took His family name

We're all his sons and daughters
Made in image of Creator
What glorious family reunion
When we meet in heaven, later
