250127 Humbly, Like Christ
Humbly, Like Christ
I want to live humbly like Christ
Who should have worn gold crown
Though divine, took on humble life
One he gladly laid down
Should have arrived in royal fashion
Instead, donned swaddling clothes
Deserved praise as highest of highs
Yet lived lowest of lows
A king fit for a golden palace
Yet, had no earthly home
Worthy to ride in royal carriage
Though on sandaled feet did roam
Humbled himself to teach all mankind
The proper way to live
A life that's not lived for the taking
But, in all our ways to give
I want to live humbly like Christ
All reverence he deserved
Instead of seeking worldly praise
Came in the world and served
So teach me, Lord, to die to self
And take up my own cross
That when I humbly follow you
It's always gain, not loss
Let me not think too highly of
Myself and all my need
But think of others before me
Humbly following Christ's lead
