 Intentions

I spoke the truth, though tone was harsh
That's not what I intended 
Intent was to build harmony
Instead, I did upend it

I've really made a mess of things
That's not what I intended 
If I could just go back in time
I'd surely try to mend it

I've lost my patience once again 
That's not what I intended 
I should have spoken lovingly 
Rather, my words offended

I didn't mean to buy all this
That's not what I intended 
But had to act with urgency 
Before this great sale ended

I left the house in rush again 
That's not what I intended 
Embarrassed when I walked in late
To meeting I attended 

Sometimes expressed opinions lead
To places not intended
Relationships can become strained
Some even have been ended

This world has sorrow, hate, and pain
That's not what God intended 
With sin's destruction,  chaos reigned
Thus, paradise suspended

Then humankind turned eyes from God
Just what Satan intended 
When listened to father of lies
In dark pit, we descended

Yet, Father sent his Son to bring
The salvation he intended
A sacrifice atoned for sin
Then back to heaven ascended

Oh, how God loves and cares for us
Nothing on earth transcends it
When give our lives in faith to Christ
We're his, like he intended

How Did I Get Here? How did I get here? I don't know Seemed sometimes fast, other times slow Though, does not matter what the pace Still wonder how came to this place How did I reach this point in time? Reality of it's so sublime For most of journey was uphill Through hard fought land, yet, I'm here still How did I get from there to here? In baby steps year after year? Unearned Earn a promotion, earn a raise Earn touchdown for good football plays Earn gold medal or blue ribbon Earn leading role for play you're in Earn soccer trophy, scholarship  Earn respect in a relationship  Earn settlement in legal suit Earn recognition playing flute While every one of those is nice Won't earn your way to paradise  It's not something you can work for Only one way opens that door It's a free gift! Can you believe it? The one thing to do is receive it Accept that Jesus is the Christ And then can live in paradise  It seems too simple to be true For surely there is more to do In this life, everyone has learned All things of value must be earned How could this gift be freely given A golden ticket into heaven?
