 Unforgiveness

Is Unforgiveness in your heart
Want to let go, but where to start
Perhaps you've carried it so long
To put it down seems somehow wrong

For they have terribly hurt you
Not to forgive: you've a right to
From pain they've caused, they need to pay
Since they deserve it anyway

Though bitterness, you try to hide
Still, it's tearing you up inside 
Reliving hurt again and again
Deep down you know that this must end

For every unforgiving hour
You're giving one who hurt you power
To control how you act and feel
Yes, Unforgiveness' a big deal

Without forgiveness, seek revenge 
Even if they make amends
For, if you can't let the hurt die
Then you'll still seek "eye for an eye"

Dear Lord, I know I'm not that strong
I've carried this hurt for too long
You're a forgiving God, I know
I need your help to let this go

Teach me to put my hurt to rest
Soften my heart toward forgiveness 
Put all bitterness on a shelf
While I'm at it, forgive myself

How Did I Get Here? How did I get here? I don't know Seemed sometimes fast, other times slow Though, does not matter what the pace Still wonder how came to this place How did I reach this point in time? Reality of it's so sublime For most of journey was uphill Through hard fought land, yet, I'm here still How did I get from there to here? In baby steps year after year?
