250409 Let Down

 Let Down

Has someone ever let you down
When needed, they were not around
A friend who said they'd stand by you
But somehow didn't follow through

Or one you thought without a doubt
Would come to aid but then bailed out
Perhaps someone that you held close
Who wasn't there when needed most

Or person who let down was you
You did not what you said you'd do
Yet even if intention's good
You didn't, when you said you would

Perhaps who you let down was self
You tried to hide it and be stealth
But even if world never knew
You carried guilt inside of you

Those counted on can disappoint
At least make nose get out of joint
At worst, the let down brings despair
As if those close don't even care

There's one who'll never let you down
The one who wore a thorny crown
He'll never fail to hear your cries
Or offer up lame alibis

Our Savior has been let down, too
By those that he was closest to
For Simon Peter did not stay
Instead, three times he did betray

So, what response did Jesus make
To followers who did forsake
He loved them just as did before
And just perhaps, he loved them more

For he could see within their heart
And knew the shame let downs impart
Forgiveness is the way to heal
The pain that let downs make us feel

Forgive yourself and others too
For all the things one failed to do
Then do your best, with godly grace
With each new opportunity you face
