250415 Tables Turned

 Tables Turned

There's righteous anger in the air
The tables have been overturned
The money scattered everywhere
Can sacrifices still be burned?

My Father's house has been defiled
And turned into a den of thieves
To onlookers, Christ had gone wild
His concern - for the least of these

For poor, access had been denied
To make a proper sacrifice
And travelers from far and wide
Weren't only swindled once but twice

With money changers' tables turned
Unblemished sacrifices freed
The clearest message to be learned
Exposure of the leader's greed

Jesus was not the only one
Filled up with anger on that day
Their scam revealed might come undone
Unless they make Christ go away

And so the tables must be turned
So Jesus' actions he'd regret
Greater intentions not yet learned
But in this moment, stage is set

A showdown would be coming soon
The fate of earthly powers sealed
The world gone dark, though it be noon
The perfect sacrifice revealed

For now, with temple's great commotion
The coins scattered, creatures set free
Their evil plans are set in motion
The culmination  - Calvary

As we reflect this Holy Week
Know our salvation we can't earn
Receive it when the Christ we seek
Praise God that table he upturned
