 Stay Awake

Why is it that I stay awake 
When I would rather sleep
Or little cat nap's all I take
When need to slumber deep

Why is it that all my thoughts race
When it is time for bed
Yet, any other time or place 
Can't keep thoughts in my head

Conversely, I can't stay awake 
When I consume large meal
Or lulled by sound the tires make
Though I'm behind the wheel

Why is it when the lights are low 
And sit to watch TV 
Eyes get heavy before you know
Then missed the whole movie

Sometimes I want to stay awake 
To glimpse new or full moon
In spite of the caffeine I take
I fall asleep too soon

Some mornings while my bed I make
I want to climb back in
But I know I must stay awake 
And new day must begin

To stay awake when I should not
Frustrating to no end
Too, dozing at wrong time or spot
When not what I intend

The Lord says we must stay awake
And watch for his return
A day for which believers ache
Their hearts within them yearn

We also must stay wide awake
To thwart the devil's schemes 
For he will try what e'er it takes
To steal our hopes and dreams

So, not a time for dozing
Second coming's ever near
Not a moment for reposting
Spread Good News for all to hear

Each day be sober and alert
For God's kingdom, do your best
The devil's power to subvert
Then enjoy the Lord's sweet rest

How Did I Get Here? How did I get here? I don't know Seemed sometimes fast, other times slow Though, does not matter what the pace Still wonder how came to this place How did I reach this point in time? Reality of it's so sublime For most of journey was uphill Through hard fought land, yet, I'm here still How did I get from there to here? In baby steps year after year?
