250507 What Happens

 What Happens

We dwell on things that have happened
Also, on things that might
But, do we give much thought to those
That never came to light

The choice to worry, fret, and fear
All energy it's sappin'
Imagining scenarios
In hindsight, never happen

Yet, still we hyperventilate
And stay awake at night
Upset over the "what ifs "
In great angst because they might

And though worry won't fix a thing
We worry nonetheless
For, what if they do happen
And our life becomes a mess

Or perhaps we put energy
On what's happened in the past
And though occurred a while ago
Our fretting makes it last

Assuming if it once occurred
It could happen again
Though certainly that could be true
Fretting won't make angst end

What happens if we turn our thoughts
About what's happened prior
To ways our faithful, loving God
Walked with us through the fire

Assured whatever occurs next
He holds safe in his hands
And all that we surrender
He will use for his good plans

For what has happened, and what will
Is all part of our story
And if we give it all to God
He'll use it for his glory
