250531 The Internet
The Internet
Internet's a great source of world's knowledge
Can supplement what's learned in college
A library of facts to spare
Still, can be lack of wisdom there
While internet's a useful tool
Some things about it are not cool
Not place if you seek privacy
Can be site of debauchery
All social forums aren't benign
Used as a weapon some of time
Some think there's anonymity
When treat others as enemy
Some spend great hours on a screen
Craving the high of dopamine
Yet, still dissatisfaction spikes
With endless tallying of "likes"
Social platforms can make folks crass
And few can let a challenge pass
Angst and emotion run sky high
Concede a point? They'd rather die
Words contain venom and disgrace
Say things they'd never say to face
No hint of loving like a brother
Instead, pit one against another
Requires great maturity
To not engage, but let it be
While many choose to take the bait
Too seldom there's healthy debate
Reposting things without regret
They never did properly vet
Attack each other nail and tooth
With what they believe is their truth
Not everything online is true
Most don't believe it all; some do
To prove we're right - how we're hard-wired
Yet, a discerning mind's required
Still, from the internet, can learn
If we just properly discern
And it can be a worthwhile tool
If we abide by golden rule
Must be kept in its proper place
True source of knowledge, not replace
Not seek all truth on world wide web
But from the Word of God instead
All direct contact, not erase
But interaction face to face
Find balance with time spent on screens
Seek face time with God, by all means
And while we know the web's worldwide
Don't let it keep us stuck inside
Explore the part of world we're in
With wisdom, make its use win-win
Show caution with what web displays
Use it only in godly ways
To spread God's love; be source of light
An awesome tool when it's used right
