My Poetry
I've had some people ask of me
From whence comes all my poetry
So've written poem so you'll see
The origin; it's backstory
I've always enjoyed things that rhyme
Made own attempts from time to time
For I was raised on Mother Goose
Sweet nursery rhymes and Dr. Seuss
Though seldom composed poetry
Until in place of misery
I found it brought me great relief
In dealing with my profound grief
For as I put my words to pen
Slowly began to breathe again
Expressing pain, I came to find
The hurt I felt wasn't just mine
For those I held the most closely
Were also hurting, just like me
So could relate to words I wrote
For, by in large, were in same boat
As others came to read my prose
Though unaware of my deep woes
Found words that they themselves could use
In dealing with their own issues
Writing began as way to cope
But soon turned into one of hope
For I can say with certainty
That divine hand was guiding me
I take no credit for my lines
For I know that the words aren't mine
Each day, each message's given me
Comes to me from the Lord, you see
I've learned to listen and obey
To write what God wants me to say
Not try to force when words won't come
But trust the Lord will send me some
A gift that I don't take lightly
For comes with responsibility
To keep my pride out of the way
And say only what told to say
I'm humbled by this every day
That God is using me this way
To bless others as I've been blessed
Do just my part - God does the rest
So I will write each day until
God says it's no longer his will
But until then, I'll share with you
A helpful, hopeful word or two
And pray, with rhyming words I speak
Deeper relationship you'll seek
With one, true God, who's seeking you
Wants you to hear Him clearly, too
