231031 Halloween

Halloween Was thinking back to Halloween  When I was just a kid The pumpkin carving, popcorn balls The mischief that we did Picking the perfect costume So, to dress up in disguise  Ringing doorbells to get candy Endless days of sugar highs The most important part to us Deciding what to wear Should it be costume that's funny Or perhaps designed to scare Watching old black and white movies All produced to cause a fright Ones with goblins, werewolves, monsters  Kind that keep you up all night A season filled with spider webs Jack-o-lanterns all aglow A witch's hat, clown's funny face Mummies wrapped from head to toe Not everyone views day this way To us, was harmless fun A favorite holiday to some Though it's not for everyone No matter what your point of view Harmless or something more As members of God's family Not a cause for civil war Though try to have meeting of minds Still, both sides may disagree Opt out, or celebrate with zeal Can be done respectfully Without j...

231019 "Sonny" Day

"Sonny" Day The sun is shining warm and clear It cuts through the cool breeze The brightness makes me squint my eyes And causes me to sneeze A day that's filled with sunshine  Seems to lighten loads I bear I've a sunny disposition  When the weather is this fair Conversely, when the storm clouds come Dark skies darken my mood No longer have bright outlook But, instead I tend to brood How curious, subtracting light Can impact me this way Yet, when the sun hides behind clouds Does it really go away? It's still shining as always does Something's just blocked my view So I can't see or feel it Thus, my countenance is blue Sweet Jesus is the Son of Light I see him the same way If I just keep my eyes on him It is a "Sonny" day But, when storm clouds in life appear My eyes cloud over, too And I forget the Son's still there Troubles obstruct my view Perhaps should put "songlasses" on Look at the Son clearly To see his light and feel his warmt...

231018 I Stand Before You

I Stand Before You Do I stand before you With hands held wide Expecting blessings  You'll put inside Or stand before you With hands upraised In awe of your glory And full of praise Do I stand before you With head held high My chest puffed up  With foolish pride Or instead, do I come On bended knee Not full of pride But humility  Do I plead my case With angry voice  As if my sins  Weren't my own choice  Demanding that you  Repair my mess To prove you're God Thus, pass some test  Do I approach your throne With downcast eyes In full repentance  Of sins you despise Much too ashamed To gaze toward your face Yet, seeking your mercy Compassion and grace Lord, I stand before you In reverent awe Knowing you're all powerful And I'm so small Yet, you, God of the universe  Are mindful of me So, blessed to stand before you For all eternity  Psalm 8:4 What is man that you are mindful of him... Hebrews 4:16 Let us then with confidence  draw n...

231017 Autumn Blessings

Autumn Blessings The air is crisp, turning leaves fall The summer heat's hard to recall The squirrels are running all around  Burying acorns underground  The light takes on a golden hue The morning grass has frosty dew I hear the football stadium roar Crackle of bonfire right next door  Watch local marching bands perform Zip up my jacket to stay warm Hear honks of geese as they head south Smell apple pie waft through my house The temp has dropped, so before dawn Must throw a second blanket on  The sun is setting way too soon Did you see last night's harvest moon? All things are flavored pumpkin spice Pot roast for dinner would be nice The trick or treaters ring the bell Are you a goblin? I can't tell Though every season has its charm There's nothing like a pumpkin farm A hay ride or a corn stalk maze Such fun ways to fill autumn days So love the sights and sounds of fall I thank Creator for them all I know he painted every tree Just to instill sheer joy in me And eve...

Merciful Monday God in his mercy Gives to you this day God in his mercy Points to his way God in his mercy Sent you his own Son God in his mercy Forgives all you've done God in his mercy Pays your complete bail God's tender mercy Will not ever fail God in his mercy Washes sin's stain away God in his mercy Keeps Satan at bay God in his mercy Your burdens He'll bear God and his mercy  Will always be there But, begging for mercy Is no easy task Yet, God's precious mercy Is free if you ask On knees ask for mercy For your sinful ways Then God's gracious mercy Will fill all your days In turn, then show mercy To others you know And that's how God's mercy  Continues to grow Then hope, love, and joy Will replace dark and cold And you'll see some of God  In each face you behold The light of God's mercy Will shine on through you And others will want to be merciful too Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy Luke 6:36 Be merciful,...
