231128 The Single Life

The Single Life Are you living the single life Without a husband? Without a wife? Is it something you chose to do Or was the choice one made for you? Do you find you're content to be Alone with your own company? The freedom to choose what to do With nobody to answer to To come and go without a care To hang out in your underwear  To always choose what's on TV And basically do as you please Or is the single life a place That you thought you would never face But, circumstances caused you to Live life you never saw for you Perhaps your partner has passed on Or changed their mind, and now they're gone Whatever reason you're alone This is the life that you now own  Might feel like dream you can't wake from Yet, keep on living life of one Is this new normal from now on Alone with self from dusk to dawn? By circumstances or by choice We've need to hear more than own voice  Not always live in solitude But others in our lives include So if the single life you lead Compani...

231127 What Season Are You In?

What Season Are You In? What season are you in Spring, Summer, or Fall? Or do you have any Idea at all? What season are you in? Which one describes you? How many of life's seasons Has your body lived through? Are you in Spring's sweet blossom? Or Summer's full sun? Maybe Autumn's where you are Or cold Winter's begun Your body has seasons But your spirit does, too On your walk with the Father Different phases you'll go through  In the Spring's spirit journey There's new life and much growth As your new faith starts blooming And your soul fills with hope As your faith walk continues  In full Summer Son You grow in dependence  Of the Holy One As your spirit matures Just like Autumn's bright hues You learn faith's to be shared All God's glory comes through Finally, full Winter's faith Like the glistening snow With its life giving moisture  For new shoots that will grow For each spiritual journey 's  Not just about you But each one that ...

231125 In Between

In Between Ever feel caught in between  Reality and what you dream? For somehow, the things that you see Aren't close to what you thought they'd be Imagined life of wedded bliss But, somehow, now you're stuck with this You're all alone, not how you dreamed Or marriage isn't what it seemed Perhaps you wished a family  Month after month, still no baby Or disappointment happens when You lose your job; must start again  Or illness, " thorn in side" you've got Things want to do, but you can not Life's disappointments can abound And in between is where you're found How do you wait? What do you do When in between happens to you? How do you trust what God has planned While walking through a dry, parched land? The Isrealites would understand Stuck between Egypt - promised land And rather than trust God to lead Begged to return, though they'd been freed Are we so different than they? Can we keep doubt and fear at bay When in between is where we'r...

231124 The Day After

The Day After Day after "Thanks Day" is called Black Friday But for me, it still is pumpkin pie day And I don't wake up at crack of dawn To have my credit card overdrawn Can't stand to tackle crowds and malls Watch angry shoppers get in brawls Over the last item in stock While store employees stare in shock Instead, stay home and put away Pumpkins and scarecrows I display And take stock of Christmas decor Then stop for pie  - just one slice more Prior to hanging mistletoe  I like to pause and take things slow And savor Thanksgiving's essence Before wrapping Christmas presents There's hustle at Thanksgiving, too With cooking, cleaning chores to do Yet, still, it feels a slower pace As we count blessings, bow for grace Your tree is up? I used to, too This year, I'm trying something new  A different change of attitude Cling to Thanksgiving's gratitude  Not jump headfirst in Christmas fray But, meditate on yesterday  Rejoice in new formed memories  Thankfu...

231123 Thank and Praise

Thank and Praise " Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him all creatures here below..." Before succumb to turkey daze Let's not forget to thank and praise The one who provides such blessings, dear Of family members gathered near Before passing the candied yams Let's give thanks to the great "I am" Harvest enough despite lean times Strength for each mountain we must climb When sharing the bean casserole May sharing gratitude be goal For each of us are richly blessed With much to bring us happiness  As mashed potatoes get passed 'round  Remember loved one's not around  Those who've passed on or just away Still blessed part of holiday Before you butter, dinner roll Praise God for health - mind, body, soul Though each part doesn't work like new Thank him for all the ones that do Let's not forget the cranberries  But, also not the least of these Those all alone or in tough place Remember as we bow in grace With cup of coffee, glass...

231122 It Ought to Be Easy

It Ought to Be Easy It ought to be easy, so why is it hard Allowing my Savior to play all my cards For if I am honest, he holds every one Then, why do I always keep talking back some It ought to be easy to give God the reins Yet, why then do I find I grab them again For he's so much better at steering the way While too often I find life's led me astray It ought to be easy to witness for Christ It's something I should do without thinking twice For he's done such great things that others should know But sharing, that's often a place I don't go It ought to be easy to speak to the Father But if it's about small things, perhaps shouldn't bother Yet, when troubles are huge and I kneel down to pray It's sometimes so hard to know what I should say It ought to be easy to swallow my pride And share my mistakes, for there's nowhere to hide And my Father forgives them before they are said That's a thing my heart knows, but it's hard for my head It ou...

231121 I Want To Be

I Want to Be I want to be like David Not the lying, cheating part But like the one who steadfastly  Sought after God's own heart I want to be like Moses Not the one who killed a man But like the faithful leader Bringing those to Promised Land I want to be like Joshua When Moses passed baton Though fearful, timid,  and unsure Knew God could be counted on I want to be like Rahab Though she was of ill repute Was saved by her obedience  Of that, there's no refute I want to be like Abraham The father of the faith Though started as idolator His trust in Lord was great I want to be like Daniel Though he faced a lion's den Refused to live the status quo And bow down to other men I even want to be like Job Who though his woes were great Still trusted in God's goodness  Nor broke under burden's weight I want to be like Esther Though at first she was not brave God used her for a time like this Her own people to save I want to be like Apostle Paul  Not when he persec...

231120 It's Your Choice

It's Your Choice Every thought that enters brain Is not one you must entertain  Though thoughts may come, there is no doubt You can choose what to think about Each argument invited to Attendance not required of you When there is anger, strife, or rage It doesn't mean you must engage When others  'round are talking smack No rule says you must answer back There's no need to reciprocate  When others want to spread that hate  Likewise, even in little spat You don't have to give tit for tat If confrontation, you don't seek Then, must learn to turn other cheek In much in life, we have a choice Let hate and anger have a voice  Or choose to hold those thoughts at bay Instead, seek peaceful, loving way Can't always choose what's happening  Good attitude, though we can bring Calm countenance in voice and face Can help put anger in its place No matter what each new day brings We choose how we'll react to things Angst, stress, and hate bring hate anew Patience...
