231220 Christmas Lights

Christmas Lights The winter night is bright outside The little children are wide-eyed  Houses are lit in red and green Once darkened, now have twinkly sheen The dining room has candlelight The Christmas tree sparkles in white The fireplace is lit ablaze Seems there is light where e're we gaze A darkened world in need of light T'is fitting to light up the night  If only for a little while  In advent of a holy child  But, wouldn't it be wonderful  If all this light weren't seasonal If fallen world wasn't so dark Is there a way to light a spark? A spark that chases hate away A spark that brightens someone's day Don't need a match or fancy lighter To be the source that makes world brighter Just need to have a spark in you To see the world in brighter hue Not seen as dreary, dull, and gray A tiny light keeps dark at bay Started with words, " Let there be light." Then, instantly, darkness took flight  But, sin brought darkness back again  And for too lon...

231219 Heart Attack

Heart Attack   You know  you've had a heart attack  When empathy for others, lack You know your heart's in a bad way When only think of self all day Your heart pumps through to every cell The vital things to keep you well But it's known to pump poison, too If devil's gotten hold of you  Though not the place where devil starts Starts first in mind, then attacks hearts For Satan, if your mind can sway Then he knows now your heart's in play Like plaque building in arteries  Devil damages stealthily It doesn't build up in one day But small comprises 'long the way Heart damage comes from what's consumed  If lies or lusts, you might feel doomed Heart's weak with lack of exercise  Daily reps of self-restraint are wise And you must look for warning signs Something's amiss, that all's not fine Is heart not into worshipping  Or perhaps you worship the wrong things Another sign heart's heading south Is heard in words that leave your mouth  To hear t...

231218 Christmas Memories

Christmas Memories   This time of year, I can't resist  Taking the time to reminisce To think about each past Christmas  Creates for me a state of bliss To take a trip down memory lane Relive past Christmases again  As sweet as any candy cane May magical feeling never wane What joy to let my memory go To childhood Christmases with snow Could build a snowman like a pro And shape the perfect ball to throw Next, let my memory stop and pause  To days of elves and Santa Claus Prancing on roof of reindeer paws Child wide-eyed wonder these things cause Then, as my memory moves along I think of loved ones who are gone Yet, all sing parts in Christmas song Still in my heart where they belong These memories all tell the truth Of influence of Grandma Ruth And if you ask me for some proof She fills my house from floor to roof For there's no Christmas soul like she From cut stars on my Christmas tree  To stories read when we were wee She carries special memories  M...

231216 Trust

Trust We trust the chair will hold our weight We trust the trains will not run late We trust our brakes will never fail Trust when you say, "check's in the mail." We trust those we know most closely  We trust salsa and chips come free We trust our plane can take to flight Trust chef before we take a bite We trust our friend's no secret spreader Trust medicines to make us better We trust those other drivers, too Will stop at red light, not speed through  Perhaps we shouldn't trust these things A lack of trust though, worry brings For when we're not the trusting kind We're always fearful things aren't fine So much in life we take on faith But, is our trust in the wrong place? For things can break and trust can too When someone close has betrayed you To trust no one's no place to be Yet, must be placed in what's worthy For broken trust's hard to forget So, what to trust that's a safe bet? The one to trust that's always true Is the on...

For Christmas isn't 'bout baking Or gi...
