241205 Bravery

 Bravery

I think the rarest commodity's
Not gold or gems, but bravery
For being brave's in short supply
Instead, we're timid, fearful, shy

Most seek a life that is risk-free
Where there's no need for bravery
To be brave's not absence of fear
It's doing it, though fear is here

Going through life being afraid
Is not the kind of life God's made
So, if I pray to grow a spine
Then what I want's the biblical kind

The kind that a young David had
Who slew a giant while yet a lad
The kind given to Daniel when
He sat inside a lion's den

The kind that Moses had in place
Confronting Pharaoh face to face
The kind that Jesus carried 'round
Though led him to a thorny crown

Instead of shaking in their sandals
They gave their fears to God to handle
And trusted him to lead the way
So, bravely faced their fears each day

That's also case for you and me
If we're in need of bravery
For what we fear's not held at bay
Because we choose to run away

So, face what you are fearful of
By facing first the Lord above
And trust each task he's called you to
He'll equip you perfectly to do

Not with shepherd's staff or stone and sling
But with what faith in Father brings
Thus, your own giants bravely slay
And like a hero save the day
