250129 This Day

 This Day

Where is it that you place your gaze
In day you're in or yesterdays
Or is it that you fix your eyes
On things ahead - the future's prize

Do you look at past with some regret
Or focus on what is not yet
Might live your days each as they come
Accepting life as total sum

Or maybe as each day's begun
Your focus' scattered on each one
Past, present, future all collide
Not quite sure how to think inside

The past has memories to spare
But no one can keep living there
Though nice to reminisce a bit
Can't wallow in regrets of it

The future can seem bleak or bright
But thinking 'bout it day and night
Won't cause it somehow to appear
Or alleviate the things you fear

Tomorrow's never promised you
And yesterday's already through
The only time you have for sure
Is gift of today to live for
So celebrate the day you're in
Don't wait till later to begin

Dear Lord, I praise you for this day
No matter what it brings my way
The joyous times and even strife
For they are all a part of life
Help me to see each single hour
As gifts  given through divine power
I praise you for each blessed minute
May you be glorified within it
And though the past will always be
My future's in eternity
So, until heaven's present tense
I'll no longer sit on the fence
Of what was, what is, and what will be
Instead, live this one day fully
And Father, Abba, may I fill
Each day with doing just your will. Amen
