250430 Daily Discipline

 Daily Discipline

If you have ever raised a child
And did not want them to grow wild
You must guide and teach them daily
The proper way that they should be

Instructing them time and again
Before they truly comprehend
Repeating with consistency
To teach them discipline daily

We all succumb to daily grind
Those things we must do all the time
Get up, brush teeth, prepare a meal
Some without thought, some an ordeal

Thus discipline ourselves daily
That's how productive lives need be
To do the things that must be done
Even the hard or tedious ones

Must discipline ourselves to eat
Not each unhealthy snack or sweet
Keep bodies fit with exercise
Done daily if one's truly wise

The opposites our tendency
A sign of immaturity
Self-discipline's essential trait
Can't simply leave our lives to fate

Another thing that must be learned
Is discipline where faith's concerned
For, if one wants faith to be real
It can not be a one-off deal

To seek the Lord a single time
And think all things will turn out fine
Is not based in reality
For Father must be sought daily

To reach maturity in faith
Discipline  - nothing can replace
To pray, and holy Word study
Is something to be done daily

As with good children we've desired
Discipline for God's kids is required
The worthy trait of self-control
Should be a spiritual goal

So, as each new day is begun
Seek and pray for disciplined one
With self-control; within Lord's will
God's holy discipline instill
