230826 On Our Own

On Our Own In any healthy society  We value self-sufficiency  Ability to get things done With little aid from anyone  First moments, if you think 'bout it As toddlers, we said," Me do it." We strive to do things by ourselves To prove that we do not need help As children, we mark milestones  Of each new thing done on our own To take our first steps without aid Or ride our new bike unafraid  First time we crossed the street alone Or spent the night at our friend's home Bought something with our own money Not with cash from Dad's money tree As teens, how great to drive alone Or move out and be on our own Make own mistakes, own choices too No longer told what we must do We test our wings; we leave the nest Though, hard on parents, know it's best Must make own way, as well we should  It's how we enter adulthood  We're all grown now; we've got this down Oh wait, some trouble's come around  Of course, can handle on my own Perhaps I'll get Mom on t...

230824 My Prayer For You

My Prayer For You May not have lived it as you do Still, I can understand your view May not know what you're going through But, I can still say prayers for you If you are especially lonely I'll pray God sends you company Better yet, if you are free Would you like a visit from me? If sick or tired; not feeling best I'll pray the Lord will give you rest When life has left you most distressed I'll pray that you'll be richly blessed When you're not sure which is best route My prayer's that God removes all doubt When for so long you've done without Then prayer will be Lord ends the drought In times when worries haven't ceased I'll ask the Lord to grant you peace If others make you feel the least Pray that your confidence increased If someone close has betrayed you I'll pray God shows you love that's true If circumstances make you blue Pray God restores a joyful view If jealousy's a vice you bear I'll pray you learn not to compare Addit...

230823 Push Me - Pull You

Push Me - Pull You I remember a story told when I was little  'Bout a fictional character named Doctor Doolittle  And a magical animal - though I know it's not true With the fanciful name of Pushmi - Pullyu A llama-like creature with heads at both ends How it knows where to go; we'll, I guess, that depends On whether it wants to come here or go there Or perhaps when conflicted, then it goes nowhere It got me to thinking that I have had times That just like this creature, I've been of two minds In my circumstances, I just didn't know  If I should be coming or if I should go My heart and emotions would "push me" one way While intellect "pull you" told me I should stay So often in my life I have come to find There's a push and a pull between the heart and the mind I've heard the old adage to follow your heart But, surely our brain also must play a part Acting just with emotion doesn't really seem wise Yet, you might not act at all if ove...

230822 Timid/Bold

Timid/Bold Why are some folks content to be Simply on the periphery Perhaps they're not content at all But just too shy to get involved Why are some souls so very meek They find it difficult to speak Express opinions or converse To talk in crowds would be the worst Some timid ones let others lead Watch what they do 'fore they proceed Overly cautious and unsure Uncertainty behind each door  While some are fearful of mistakes  Won't try new things for risks it takes So, play it safe throughout their life Attempting to avoid all strife To be on outside looking in Though certainly is not a sin And meekness can be a virtue  Taken too far, can hinder you In Christian life, if truth be told Should not be fearful - instead bold Live out your faith with energy No meekly, shyly, timidly But what if boldly's not your way And fearfulness defines your day How do you overcome your fear Profess your faith so others hear I'll share my personal testimony  For shy and fearful defined...

230819 Patience My Dear

Patience My Dear Patience, my dear  No need for such hurry Patience, my dear  Why all of this worry Patience, my dear  Don't fret, and don't fear Patience, my dear  For your answer's quite near Patience, my dear There is reason and rhyme Patience, my dear All in God's perfect time Patience, my dear  Don't act in great haste Patience, my dear  All good things must be paced Patience, my dear  For His way will be clear If we stop in our rushing To lend Him an ear For if waiting on God's  Doing nothing at all Then we've missed our reliance On Him, so we fall And the devil himself  Uses haste as a snare So it seems like we're going  Yet, going nowhere  At least nowhere good No place we want to be  All because of decisions  We made hastily So, patience, my dear For, if God says to wait You'll arrive right on time For the Lord's never late For patience shows trust If He says to delay Then you know you can trust Better things on t...

230818 Jesus' Way

Jesus' Way Grace and forgiveness are Jesus' way Not glares, wagging fingers,  or blame For these things do little to soften a heart But instead produce anger and shame Patience and gentleness are Jesus' way Allowing mistakes to be made Then, with utmost kindness, he nudges our steps To guide us on path he has laid Humbly with meekness is Jesus' way To step from his throne and to serve Not seek his own honor or our accolades  Though those things he most richly deserves Care and compassion are Jesus' way He feels for us when we're forlorn  He understands all of the pain we endure For, he too sheds tears when we mourn Defender, protector is Jesus' way He fights every battle we face He'll take all our conflicts unto himself  And give us his peace in its place Vengeance and justice are Jesus' way  For he knows that pure evil exists And no loving God can let hate have its way When those led by the devil resist Love is the essence of Jesus' way The foun...
